Corrosion Protection: Interview with Marco Facciadio

CATHODIC PROTECTION

Advanced solutions for cathodic protection: when experience makes the difference

In the niche sector of cathodic protection, some SMEs offer innovative solutions to optimize a well-established process thanks to deep technical expertise. With over 25 years of experience, SAIT Srl, based in Umbertide (Perugia), has recently launched a new product: the high-conductivity potential probe IRON PROBE®, which simplifies and improves corrosion monitoring.

Cathodic protection is a technology used to protect buried or submerged metal structures from corrosion, used in numerous sectors: naval, infrastructure, construction, up to everyday objects such as kettles and water heaters. SAIT, founded in 1981, started with excavations and plant installations, then specialized in corrosion protection, obtaining ISO certifications and expanding its offer with innovative products and technical services.

The IRON PROBE®, developed internally and patented in 2022, represents an evolution in cathodic potential monitoring. Thanks to a patented design, it allows precise measurements even in difficult environmental conditions, with great accuracy even in resistive soils and without the typical interference of traditional probes. It is also ideal for identifying localized corrosion on pipes and structures.

SAIT now aims to make cathodic protection mandatory in the water sector too, to combat serious water losses in public networks, as evidenced by ISTAT data: in 2022 alone, water losses in Italy could have satisfied the needs of over 43 million people for a year.
